Discipleship

ABIDE ministries is ALL ABOUT the Discipleship PROCESS

Discipleship is the life long process whereby an individual moves from spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity and then seeks to be used to repeat this process in someone else’s life.

A Disciple  is an individual who, through time and by practice, is learning to fully submit all facets of life to the authority of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   Disciples of Jesus Christ are individuals who are learning to imitate the thinking, behavior, and the relational components that were demonsrated by Jesus Christ.

There are various methods for discipleship: One on one….mentoring…..small groups….bible studies etc.

While there are various methods for producing growth in the life of a Believer, there is one ultimate goal in the discipleship process. We do not grow merely for the sake of obtaining more information or to position us to do more tasks. The overall goal for Spiritual growth is so that we can become more and more like Jesus Christ in the way that we THINK, BEHAVE, and RELATE TO OTHERS.

Spiritual Growth always occurs in the context of relationships and community. We have been created for community. InGenesis 2:18, when God sees that man is alone, He says that is not good. We punish prisoners by placing them in solitary confinement. Some parents place children in ‘time out’. Why? We know that all humans have been wired by God in such a way that we crave to be connected with someone at some level.

ABIDE seeks to establish environments that are conducive for learning, where people can be taught the Word of God and then most importantly, begin to live out and apply God’s Word with one another. For the rest of our lives….each of us as Christians NEEDS to have at least one person in our lives that we are discipling and we NEED to have at least one person in our life discipling us. I need for someone to pour the ways of God into my life and I also need to invest time into someone else’s life. In a busy society that we live in we need to

MAKE the time to MAKE DISCIPLES.

Imitate me as I imitate Christ [1Corinthians 11:1]

DISCIPLESHIP

Discipleship requires a heart that is willing to surrender to the ways of God.

SURRENDER

Not my will but thy will be done”

Caring enough to come along side and touch the lives of the hurting
